RL Releases New Single ‘No Filter’

R&B

Not every man desires to have their woman dolled up with added features. According to RL’s new single “No Filter,” sometimes less is more.

On the slick groove, self-produced and written, the R&B veteran is turning the mirror back on his lady in hopes that she knows how beautiful she is without the attractive accessories. He confidently sings that she keeps her foot on the necks of many just the way she is.

RL sings, “No filter / You don’t need it / You’re so beautiful, can’t you see it? / Girl, no filters / You don’t need nothing extra / Baby it gets no better / You apply all the pressure.”

“No Filter” is a taste of what RL’s said he’s been cooking in the studio. In March 2021, he shared the single “Another Night,” which he said was inspired by the Minneapolis sound. He told Rated R&B’s Keithan Samuels that he desired to create something as genius as Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis as he reflected on his youth listening to the music they made.

“Sometimes when I’m having a bad day or in a bad space I close my eyes and imagine myself as a kid back in my grandma’s burgundy Buick Riviera. I’m in the backseat with the window cracked and the radio is on…I don’t really recall what’s on the radio, but it feels good,” RL described. “When creating this record I imagined this creating the same feeling.”

Ahead of talking to Rated R&B about Jamie Foxx’s classic album Unpredictable in late 2020, RL dropped his EP titled The Letter J.

Circling back to 2021, RL joined forces with Donell Jones for the remix to his single “Karma.” The new version included Jacquees, Dave Hollister and Carl Thomas.
