Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ Scores Nomination at 2023 Golden Globes

R&B

The nominations for Best Original Song at the 80th Golden Globe Awards have been announced. Rihanna is among the nominees for “Lift Me Up,” an emotional ballad from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. It marks her first Golden Globe nomination.

Rihanna co-wrote “Lift Me Up” with Tems, Ludwig Göransson and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler.

Göransson also produced the track, which celebrates the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman, who originally played T’Challa/Black Panther before passing away in 2020.

“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life,” said Tems.

“I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

“Lift Me Up” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the Nov. 22 issue. It’s her 32nd top-ten appearance on the Hot 100. At the time of publication, the song is No. 22 on the main singles chart.

According to Billboard, “Lift Me Up” made impressive debuts across the following charts: Hot R&B Songs (No. 1); R&B Streaming Songs (No. 1); R&B Digital Song Sales (No. 1); Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (No. 1); and R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs.

In late November, “Lift Me Up” entered the top ten at No. 9 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It cemented her first top-ten entry on the airplay-driven chart. It’s now No. 3 at the time of publication.

“Lift Me Up” has garnered more than 109 million streams on Spotify since releasing Oct. 22.

Meanwhile, on iTunes, “Lift Me Up” is currently No. 12 on the Songs Chart (all genres).

Moreover, the official video has pulled in over 53 million views on YouTube.

Beyond “Lift Me Up,” Rihanna also contributed “Born Again” to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

She co-wrote the piano-driven track alongside James Fauntleroy, The-Dream and Göransson.
