Tyla’s ‘Water’ Rises to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay Chart

Tyla’s breakout single “Water” has flowed atop Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart this week.

The Grammy-winning track knocks Mary J. Blige’s “Still Believe in Love” from its eight-week reign to No. 4, as Usher’s “Good Good” rises to No. 2 and moves Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama” down to No. 3.

“Water” is Tyla’s first single to reach No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. It previously topped the following Billboard charts: R&B Digital Song Sales, Afrobeats Songs, Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, Rhythmic Airplay Chart, and World Digital Song Sales.

“Water” is also No. 1 at R&B radio this week. The song moved up three spots with an audience impression of 9.9 million, according to Mediabase.

The Sammy Soso-produced bop will appear on Tyla’s self-titled debut album, out March 22 via Epic Records. The highly anticipated album will also include the previously shared tracks “On and On,” “Butterflies” and “Truth or Dare.”

The South African singer released a video for the latter track, the album’s second single, earlier this month. NABIL (Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar) directed the video, which has 6.9 million views on YouTube at the time of publication.

Speaking of “Truth or Dare,” the track debuts at No. 40 on the Rhythmic Airplay chart, led by Nicki Minaj’s “Everybody” and No. 44 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, led by SZA’s “Snooze.”

Circling back to TYLA, she told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe why she chose to self-title the project. “For now, my introduction to the world, I just wanted to be clean, Tyla,” she explained. “I want people to get to know my name and get to know my sound because my first project is going to be Tyla in music form. So, I felt like self-titled would’ve been the best way to go.”

On March 21, Tyla will kick off the Europe/U.K. leg of The Tyla Tour in Oslo, Norway, and will conclude April 1 in London.

The North American leg begins April 22 in San Fransico, California. From there, Tyla will perform in Seattle, Vancouver, Miami, Atlanta, Washington, and more. The tour wraps up May 28 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
