After previewing the collaboration earlier this month, Muni Long and Mariah Carey have officially released their “Made For Me (Remix).”
The updated version includes extra background vocals from Carey, plus a new verse.
Speaking on the collaboration, Carey says, “When I got the call from JD to work on the ‘Made For Me’ remix, I said yes immediately. Muni is an amazing writer and performer, and this collaboration is a match made in heaven!”
“Made For Me (Remix)” may be Long and Carey’s first song together, but it’s not their first time collaborating. Long co-wrote 2015’s “Infinity” and 2018’s “A No No” and “Runway” with Carey.
The standard version of “Made For Me” was released Sept. 15, 2023, via Supergiant Records and Def Jam Records. The song has spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart, Long’s longest-charting No. 1 to date.
At radio, “Made For Me” topped the urban and R&B formats. On Billboard, it spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and four weeks atop the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
Long co-wrote “Made For Me” with the song’s producers Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Jordan XL.
Dupri first confirmed Long’s remix with Carey in a social media post on May 8. The legendary producer posted a clip recorded outside of Carey’s home studio. “You know a song ain’t a song with out a remix baby @munilong,” Dupri captioned for a video that featured a preview of Carey’s vocals playing in the background.
Tonight (May 21) at 9 p.m. ET, Long will appear on NBC’s The Voice as a guest artist. As announced on social media, she will perform “Made For Me.”
“I’m so grateful that I never get tired of singing my songs because I refuse to sing anything I don’t absolutely love,” Long wrote on Instagram. “Tuesday is a BIG day! I’m dropping the ‘Made For Me’ remix with the iconic @mariahcarey AND I’ll be performing a beautiful rendition of ‘Made For Me’!”
That’s not Long’s only upcoming television performance. The Grammy-winning artist is scheduled to perform at the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday, June 30. She’s nominated for two awards, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Viewer’s Choice (“Made For Me”).
Meanwhile, for Carey, prior to her collaboration with Long, she joined pop sensation Ariana Grande on her “yes, and?” remix.
