Brandy’s Daughter Sy’Rai Smith Covers ‘Almost Doesn’t Count’

R&B

Like mother, like daughter. Sy’Rai, the daughter of Vocal Bible Brandy, has plucked from her mother’s rich catalog and performed a remarkable cover of “Almost Doesn’t Count” for Steve Mackey’s Taco Tuesday event in Los Angeles.

With Mackey on the keyboard and offering backing vocals, Sy’Rai, seated in front of a fireplace, shook off the nerves and pressed through this gem from 1998’s Never Say Never with confidence and the textured tone of her proud mom.

Sy’Rai’s performance comes just after her appearance on The RealDuring her visit, she spoke with co-hosts Jeannie Mai Jenkins and Adrienne Houghton about her weight-loss journey. She also revealed that she has a project in the works that is vocal-produced by Brandy.

Following her appearance, Brandy went to Instagram to celebrate Sy’Rai’s brave decision to be open about her insecurities.

“What an amazing human being♥️ I love your spirit and your smile. So brave to walk in your purpose and shine in your truth all up on @therealdaytime Your smile ♥️ …. @syraismith #inspire,” wrote Brandy.

In April 2020, Sy’Rai made her official introduction to music with “At Your Best.” She later appeared on Brandy’s b7 track “High Heels.”
