Blast Worship: Maggot Cave – Decibel Magazine

Metal

Where they from?
Sydney, Australia. As everyone gets excited for the NFL season I am here to simply remind everyone of one indisputable fact: the New York Mets suck. They currently are only 2.5 games back from the Atlanta Braves for the last wild card spot in the NL but it doesn’t matter because they can’t keep a goddamn lead because their bullpen sucks hot ass. It’s just the same old song and dance every year and not even the Hawk Tuah girl could save this utterly pathetic shitstain of a franchise.

Why the hype?
Australian grindcore, let’s talk about it. The Aussie’s manage to take the tenets of grindcore rather seriously while still retaining enough of a sense of humor that it never feels OVER-SERIOUS. Enter Maggot Cave, with the bluster and blister of an Insect Warfare but the absolute ZANINESS of fellow countrymen Meth Leppard. I know I really like a band when the guitar player uses an HM-2 and I still get down with it.

Latest release?
Chronicles of the Cave out now on Grindhead Records. Normally bands as silly as Maggot Cave really struggle to stretch their material to full length LP status but the boys really pull it off exceptionally here. ‘Chronicles of the Cave’ is a whirling dervish of blasts, d-beats and the occasional Nails-inspired beatdown that should leave a wide cross-section of grind fans happy. They even have a song called ‘Strip Club Brawl’ that has a badass two-step part right in the middle. How perfectly Australian of them.
