The latest video, “Candy Apple Baseball,” from Austin, TX hardcore quartet, Mugger, has everything we want in a minute-plus package: old baseball highlights, dessert, luchador masks and, uh, punk rock, all in a brightly colored package. Mugger—Anna Troxell (vocals), Daniel Fried (guitar), Lisa Alley (bass), Patrick Troxell (drums)—skirt the line between noise rock and dirty hardcore on this knuckle-scraper with a catchy chorus (though I’m not sold on the idea of spinach ice cream, tbh).

“Candy Apple Baseball” comes from the half boy-half girl outfit’s latest full-length, Luck Forever, which was recorded by Fried and Patrick Troxell and mixed by Fried. Mastering was done by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air. The album is set for release on vinyl and digitally on November 15 via Quiet Panic. Place your preorder here.

This is what Fried had to say about Mugger’s new video:

“The video for ‘Candy Apple Baseball’ is an amalgamation of ‘Satanic Panic’ and ‘War on Drugs’ news exposé hysteria mixed with technicolor vintage sports clips, all filtered through 90s manic music video styles. I wanted to have a mixture of real people, fake backgrounds, Technicolor outfits and gritty film. Grindhouse style meets Hi Octane. Ladies and Gentlemen The Fabulous Stains during a Brat Girl summer. We also recently released a music video for the song ‘Find Out’ (feat. John Brannon from Negative Approach) that was dark, tough and gritty. So, I wanted to showcase another side of the band in this video—hyper-feminine gonzo punk. Flashing the words on screen helps illuminate the song’s meaning, showcasing what a ridiculous concept dividing and categorizing genders can be.”
