Video Premiere: Keeping it Wolf with Oak, Ash & Thorn’s “Unchain the Wolf”

Metal

Two albums and eight years in and Denver’s Oak, Ash & Thorn are catching stride with their conglomerate take on D-beat infused blackened death metal. Following the 2018 self-release of first album, May Every Altar Linger and follow up, To Gaze on Stars of Frost three years later, the quartet of vocalist/guitarist Adam Armstrong, guitarist Jason Harding, bassist Erik Hoffman and drummer Cierra White have also recently been working on seasoning up the road dog part of their band’s life (see below for the dates of the run they’re presently in the midst of). This comes in conjunction with the release tomorrow of the Dave Otero mastered Eternal 7″ featuring two tracks, “Unchain the Wolf” and “Distant Mountains, Distant Gods.” They are also, it must be noted, one of the few bands that make use of a comma as part of their moniker.

In celebration of their latest recorded triumph and the inking of a deal with Lost Future Records, we present the premiere of the promo video for “Unchain the Wolf.” Says the band about the track in question:

“‘Unchain the Wolf’ was inspired by the prophecy of Fenrir from Norse paganism, who devours the world and slays Odin at the end of time. The band drew threads from this element of Ragnarok and their love of crust and D-beat and wove both into a furious melodic death metal track wherein vocalist Adam Armstrong exorcises old demons from his family’s past. The end result is an intensely personal reckoning with the power of ancestral memory, fate, and Armstrong’s upbringing in the American South.”

Eternal is released tomorrow on Lost Future Records. Info and stuff here:
