Will the real Usher please stand up? The R&B legend helped unveil his lifelike wax figure at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas on Wednesday (Sept. 2), and the similarities between Usher and the statue are staggering.
“It looks more like me than me. I am honored to be able to share the incredible moment that I had in Las Vegas with the entire world that comes here. This is impressive,” Usher said while admiring the artists’ craftsmanship. “You guys got my eyes right.”
The Grammy-winning singer pulled up to the launch event in a Tom Ford jacket and his signature Ice Box “U” pendant chain, which matched his wax figure’s jewelry.
The inspiration for the statue’s outfit came from Usher’s My Way Las Vegas residency. Usher donated his Vanson skeleton biker jacket and had his wax figure laced in roller skates, which came together over the course of nine months with help from 20 studio artists, according to the press release from Madame Tussauds.
“I’m blown away,” he added. “I hope that my fans who did not get a chance to see that show get a little glimpse of the magic that was there from my first Vegas residency.”
Fans and Usher’s peers had fun in the comments, as they couldn’t believe the uncanny resemblance. “See? The fans swore up and down you had a double. Now look,” singer Johnta Austin joked, referencing the false speculation of Usher having a clone perform for him in New Jersey.
A fan added: “I’ve never seen a wax figure look this much like the person. The person that made this has to be a fan!”
Usher’s wax figure ceremony comes ahead of the singer taking the stage with Chris Brown for the R&B Tour, which will take over Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium for shows on Sept. 5, 6 and 18.
