Ty Dolla $ign Releases Summer-Ready Jam ‘Motion’

R&B

Ty Dolla $ign is back. The genre-bending artist has released his new single “Motion,” produced by Will Larsen and Stryv.

“Motion” rivals past R&B-infused pop highlights from the early to mid-2010s, featuring Ty sounding full of life as he sings about him and his woman’s bodies touching the dance floor.

“Something takes a hold now when we’re dancing / Bodies ’round us caught in the wave / Sometimes, it’s like playin’ ’round with magic / Let it take you, let it you all the way,” Ty sings over a blithe, swaying production.

In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, Ty shared why he chose to put this record out.

“This one will just make you move automatic right when it come on. Really since Free TC, I had a dance song on there, my first album, so I’ve always been into that bag. Right now, this just was one of the hottest ones that was on my hard drive,” he explained. “I was like, ‘It’s time for this one, summertime.’ Different tempos, but doing my kind of music, just having fun.”

Ty accompanied his new single “Motion” with a pulsating visual directed by Alex Bittan, which can be viewed below.

“Motion” is the lead single from Ty upcoming EP, slated to arrive later this summer on Atlantic Records.

The untitled set will mark Ty’s first collection of songs since Cheers to the Best Memories, his 2021 collaborative project with R&B duo dvsn. It will also serve as his first solo release since 2020’s Featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

It is uncertain if his previous one-offs, “2022” and “My Friends” with Lil Durk and Mustard, will appear on his future project or one of his many others coming down the pike.

“I got an EP ready, I got a mixtape ready, I got an album ready, I got another type of genre album ready. I’m ready, so now it’s about spacing it out and properly timing everything the right way. I’ll be dropping hella new music and I’m excited for it,” Ty revealed to Lowe.

On June 17, Ty is set to headline night one of the AFRAM Festival at the historic Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, Maryland.
