Wretched Blessing, Spurious Ovation
Prepare for a temblor along the extreme music fault line as Kayhan Vaziri (known for work in Yautja and Coliseum) and Rae Amitay (of Immortal Bird and Thrawsunblat) roll out an earth shaker as Wretched Blessing.
Formed in Chicago in 2023, with Vaziri taking the lead on guitar and vocals and Amitay holding down the drums and summoning their own vocal prowess, the duo will drop their debut Wretched Blessing EP next month.
“A MONTH!?” Yeah, we hear you—that feels like an eternity to wait these days—which is why we’ve snagged the first single, “Spurious Ovation,” as a sneak peek to sate your greedy ears and chatted with the band to get their take on their new beast:
Decibel: Would you give us a little background on “Spurious Ovation?”
Vaziri: This is the first song we wrote for this project, and we wanted to cover a lot of stylistic ground while still keeping things tight. Lyrically, it’s about people who fixate on the projections and perceived lives of others. It criticizes that behavior directed toward people who willfully rot their minds.
Amitay: Almost everyone employs these parasitic forms of interaction engineered to waste our time and exploit our instability. This song places the ire more upon people who seem untroubled and consumed by these shallow environments.
Unrestrained by microgenre commitments, Wretched Blessing is on a mission to explore the spectrum of metal and punk without limitations. Their first shot across the bow is a big F-you to the tyranny wrought by the tech oligarchs. I can get behind that, and so should you. Hear “Spurious Ovation” right here, right now, right below.
