Proto-metalistsBlue Cheer put forth the suggestion that there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues, but we’d like to rebut that assertion with a fistful of old school New Mexico death metal courtesy of Santa Fe ragers Street Tombsand their new single, “Upset the Grave.” Consider your summertime blues cured. And by cured we mean stomped on, ravaged and set on fire. This five-minute cranium walloper, from their upcoming second full-length,Existence Is Corruption, relies on simple feral savagery to deliver blow after blow. These dudes—Damian Jacoby (vocals/guitar), David McMaster (guitar/backing vox), Ben Brodsky (drums), Galen Baudhuin (bass)—offer up basic blood and guts DM with glee. Bye bye blues.
Existence Is Corruption was was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Greg Wilkinson at Engine 70 Studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Earhammer Studio in Oakland, California, with additional recording by bassist Galen Baudhuin. It’s set for release on CD, vinyl, cassette and digitally via Carbonized Records on August 21. “‘Upset the Grave’ plays into themes of human entrapment and addiction. It culminates at the point in which humans choose to remain complacent in their self destruction. The nature of our pain and suffering differ, but ‘Upset the Grave’ thrashes to something universal, as consuming destructive thoughts collectively contaminate and rip apart our apathetic minds.”
