Track Premiere: Kazea – “Trenches”

Metal

Imagine how dark and cold it is in Sweden right now. While you’re mulling that frigidness over, have a listen to the new single, “Trenches,” from sludgy Swedish  post-metal trio, Kazea, who offer up a chilly, bleak musical landscape, punctuated by tense guitar thrum and understated vocals. The band—Rasmus Lindblom (bass/synth), Jonas Mattsson (vocals/guitar), Daniel Olsson (drums/backing vocals)—build the slow-rolling tempo to an unexpected crescendo where Black Birch vocalist Gina Wiklund adds her primordial black metal rasp to the track, taking it even further into despair.

“Trenches” is the second single from Kazea’s upcoming full-length debut, I. Ancestral, which was recorded and mixed by Ulf Blomberg (Black Birch) at HoboRec and mastered by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna). The track will be available on all digital platforms on February 7, while I. Ancestral is set for release March 21 via Suicide Records. Place preorders here.

The band commented on its latest single:

“ We are so glad that Gina accepted to be a part of this song and her performance really made it come to life in a way that exceeded our expectations. The song is about internal and external conflicts intertwined with poor decision-making, establishing a feeling of despair and self loathing.”
