Track Premiere: Eagle Twin – ‘Horn vs. Halo’

Metal

Despite—or perhaps because of—its status as a Mormon stronghold, Salt Lake City has produced numerous notable heavy bands, among them revered doom institution SubRosa and their offshoot band The Otolith, who formed in the wake of Subrosa’s breakup. After releasing their first album, Folium Limina, in 2022, the quintet are back with a new split.

Entitled Legends of the Desert: Volume 4, The Otolith are mirrored by Eagle Twin. Also hailing from Salt Lake City, the heavy stoner doom duo have been active since 2007, releasing their last album on Southern Lord. Six years after their last album, The Thundering Heard, Eagle Twin are streaming the first song from Legends of the Desert. Titled “Horn vs. Halo,” vocalist Gentry Densley’s low rumble matches the loud, distorted tone of his guitar.

It’s a strong foil to The Otolith’s flowery, melodic brand of doom. Check out the tune below and grab your pre-orders via Desert Records before Legends of the Desert: Volume 4 before it drops on September 20.
