Fancy yourself a lover of Norwegian melodic, progressive, and doom metal, perhaps all rolled into one? Well, this might be your lucky fuckin day because it seems that one of the classics is coming back in one of its best forms. The 3rd and the Mortal just announced that they’ll be reuniting with singer Kari Rueslåtten for some special shows in 2025 and 2026.
Basically, they’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of two records they released in 1994, Tears Laid In Earth and the Sorrow EP. Rueslåtten was the singer on those two albums so no shit they’re gonna have her back to perform the albums in their entirety. It wouldn’t feel right if they didn’t for some reason unless that’s just me being bratty. Whatever.
The band is obviously fuckin tickled by the upcoming reunion, releasing this statement as a band:
“We have had a great time rehearsing together with Kari again after all these years, and we are very much looking forward to meeting fans and friends in the coming!
“This reunion is about celebrating the music we created together with the friends and wonderful fans who have inspired us all along.”
Rune Hoemsnes, the band’s drummer added the band “cannot wait to get out there again and reconnect with the amazing fans and friends who’ve supported us over the years.”
The 3rd and the Mortal’s first special show will be an appearance at the Midgardsblot festival in Borre, Norway from August 13-16, 2025. Silje Brekke, the press manager for the festival said this of the reunion as well:
“This will be an iconic and unforgettable moment at Midgardsblot. “The reunion of The 3rd and the Mortal with Kari Rueslåtten promises to be a magical experience, perfectly entwined with the unique setting of Borre’s ancient burial mounds and history.”
This would be an amazing show to see blitzed out of your mind and, if I’m somehow magically able to go to one of them, I will for sure be bopped.
