Teyana Taylor and Iman’s ‘Wake Up Love’ Gets Certified Gold

R&B

Teyana Taylor has achieved her third award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) this year.

Her 2020 track “Wake Up Love,” featuring her husband and former basketball player Iman Shumpert, has been certified gold after selling over 500,000 equivalent units.

Taylor’s new certification comes less than a month after being presented with a gold plaque for “Rose In Harlem.” The latter track is lifted from Taylor’s sophomore album, Keep That Same Energy (K.T.S.E.).

In January, Taylor received her initial certified release for the year 2023 with the remix of “Gonna Love Me” featuring Wu-Tang Clan. The original version of the latter track was upped to platinum in January 2021, making it her best-selling release to date.

Returning to “Wake Up Love,” this restless song is featured on The Album, which was released in 2020. It was the fifth track released prior to Taylor’s third album, which was included in Rated R&B’s list of the top 30 R&B albums of 2020.

Taylor directed the official video for “Wake Up Love.” It has been viewed over 18.5 million times on YouTube.

On Spotify, the song, produced by Cardiak, Swiff D and Mally Mall, has been streamed over 42 million times.

Taylor released The Album, her third full-length project, three years ago. Since then, she has entered retirement and The Album remains her latest long player.

Although music may not be Taylor’s main focus, her top priority is working behind the scenes with the full-service production company, The Aunties.

She has been chosen as the creative director for several artists, including Summer Walker, Latto, and, most recently, Lil Baby.

Taylor has received high praise and positive reviews this spring for her performance in A Thousand and One, which was directed by A.V. Rockwell. This motherhood drama is now available on a few streaming platforms.

This month, Taylor is set to perform as a special guest at the rescheduled Sol Blume Festival in Sacramento, California. Brent Faiyaz and Kehlani headline the two-day affair.
