Teedra Moses knows exactly what she wants and doesn’t want in a relationship. And her new song “Single” lays it all out.
Produced by PJ Morton, “Single” is built around a piano backdrop accentuated with live percussion and bass. There’s a simplicity to it that evokes how clear-eyed she is about her uncompromising desires.
“Put me onto things I never knew / Make me feel safe with you / Show me this is where I need to be / Might just mess around / And give you everything,” she sings.
Regarding “Single,” Moses said, “When PJ sent me the music, the lyrics poured out of me immediately. This was a song I had been waiting to write.
She added, “People are always curious about why I’m single, as if something must be wrong. But the truth is, the choice is mine. I know what I want, and I refuse to settle for anything less.”
“Single” is the first offering from Moses’ third album, due later this year. The upcoming project will follow 2015’sCognac & Conversation. The latter included features from Anthony Hamilton and Rick Ross, who appeared on “All I Ever Wanted” and the title track.

Last year, Moses released her EP Complex Simplicity (Reimagined), featuring reworked versions of several songs from her 2004 debut album.Reimaginedincluded collaborations with Dawn Richard, Durand Bernarr, Estelle and more.
“When revisiting Complex Simplicity, I wanted to reconnect with the softer, more feminine parts of myself and bring that sensuality forward,” said Moses. “When I recorded the original album, my approach was more aggressive because of where I was in life. With this reimagined version, I wanted to honor the lyrics fans have loved for two decades, while evolving the production to create something that feels both familiar and new.”
In other news, Moses is a special guest on Floetry’sSay Yes Tour. The U.S. tour, which kicked off last week, has upcoming stops in Detroit, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Durham and Atlanta. It will wrap up May 17 in Oakland.
