Stokely‘s sophomore solo album Sankofa has a solid new release date. It will arrive on September 17, via Bluraffe Entertainment, in partnership with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis’ Flyte Tyme / Perspective Records.
The third-quarter release from Stokely features a handful of appearances, including H.E.R., The Bonfyre, Wale, Snoop Dogg, KiDi, and Shakespeare!. Dogg pops up twice, with one of his laidback verses on the single “Vibrant.”
The R&B veteran’s father, Mahmoud El-Kati, lecturer, writer, and commentator on the African American experience, also makes a cameo on the closing song of the 18-track set.
Recent songs appearing on Sankofa, which features Stokely behind 99 percent of its varied instrumentation, include “Woman” and “Cascade.” The lead single, “She…,” which peaked atop of the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart in 2019, also makes the tracklist.
