Los Angeles-based singer Sophia Galaté steps into the spotlight with her debut album, For My Own Entertainment.
Released Oct. 24, the 35-minute set brims with lush instrumentation that draws from R&B, soul and funk. Across the album’s 12 tracks, Galaté gives herself permission to prioritize and explore her full self without feeling the need to appease others.
In the opening title track, Galaté embraces fleeting connections and refuses to stress over what doesn’t pan out. “If I don’t like him, it don’t matter / I’ll just find a girl who satisfies me better,” she smirks.
The early single “Please Don’t Talk To Me” hears Galaté setting boundaries, while the sultry “Options” considers letting down her guard for someone worthwhile. “If I like the way it feels / I could make you my only option,” she sings.
The Sierra Sellers-assisted “My Girls” breaks from romance to celebrate life with close friends: “Always an occasion when we step out on the pavement.”
Closing with “No Saving,” which gets a special reprise at the end, Galaté pleads to her partner for forgiveness and asks for grace as she continues her pursuit of personal growth.
Speaking on For My Own Entertainment, Galaté explains, “This album marks a big energetic shift for me — one that’s bolder and more fun. I really wanted to showcase my vibrant personality, my humor, yet still express my vulnerability. I feel like this music represents how I truly live my life on my own terms — independent, carefree, and putting myself first. It’s for my own entertainment (and my friends’), and I hope to inspire other people to do the same!”
