“It’s been a crazy journey, but it’s sure created a lot of music.”

Old Dominion to Issue Fan Serviced Compilation Album "Odies But Goodies" Sept 6th

For Old Dominion, a collective of songwriter/musicians who started playing gigs for the fun of it, there was no masterplan of sold-out arena tours, headlining and breaking records at iconic festivals or 6 and 7 Vocal Group of the Year wins at the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Awards. They just wanted to write songs, play for people and make sure everyone went home having had the best night ever!

Never mind that collectively Matthew Ramsey, Brad Tursi, Trevor Rosen had written definitive hits for Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Sam Hunt, Blake Shelton and the Band Perry, they – along with the dialed in rhythm section Geoff Sprung on bass and Whit Sellers on drums – all about creating a vibe that made people feel happy. Starting in bars with songs that took on life with a beat that rolled along in a good way, it wasn’t long before they were supporting some of the biggest acts in country music – including multiple summers of Chesney’s epic stadium tours – then moving on to their own hard ticket, bring your friends arena tours.

“We all believe in the power of the song,” says Ramsey. “And taking that song out to where people could hear it, feel it, maybe even be in it. We did it for the fun, and then we realized that an awful lot of people were loving the songs. And not just the ones on the radio, but the songs that were never gonna be singles. That’s when you know you’ve hit something.”

That hitting something is what inspired Old Dominion to gather up their hits, their obscure tracks and fan favorites for Odies But Goodies. The 31-track collection spans the band of brothers’ journey from lark to meaningful headliner in a way that pays tribute to what the fans ask for.

Opening with “Coming Home,” the passionate song about returning to the one you love, Odies gathers up “Written In The Sand,” “Song for Another Time,” “Break Up With Him,” “Hotel Key,” “Snapback” and so many more with deep cuts including “Nowhere Fast,” “Hawaii,” “Some Horses” and “Still Writing Songs About You.” Even better, Old Dominion has recorded their own version of Johnny Lee’s all-genre #1 “Lookin’ For Love,” which the band performed on the 2020 CMA Awards telecast to honor the movie “Urban Cowboy.”

“We love that the people who love our music love all of it,” Ramsey offers. “Obviously we love the songs on the radio, but some of the deeper dive stuff, that Johnny Lee song we got to perform to honor him, Mickey Gilley and ‘Urban Cowboy,’ all those things are as much a part of who we are as the hits. So when you listen to Odies But Goodies, I think you get a very good sense of who we are as a band, but also as individuals – and even a sense of the people who show up for this music.”

With their euphoric live shows, myriad multi-platinum hits and a worldview that finds the sweet in the tough stuff and the exponential awesome in the good stuff, Old Dominion built a sound and perspective designed to lift people up. Creating a space for people who want to experience life, love and adventure as a way of being, they’ve quietly become one of country’s stealth superstars – and this compilation marks the end of an awesome chapter of a career that’s just getting started.
