OG Maco reportedly died last night (December 26) at the age of 32, TMZ reports.
The rapper had been in hospital for several weeks due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His family confirmed on December 16 that he was in a “critical but stable condition” after allegedly attempting suicide.
Sources have told TMZ that Maco was in a coma and his condition then took a turn for the worse. Doctors had reportedly also been struggling to get a proper brain scan in order to flush out the toxins in the rapper’s system. He passed away in a Los Angeles hospital surrounded by his family.
Maco’s family has not yet commented on the report.
In 2016, Maco was involved in a car accident that left him without his right eye. In 2019, he was diagnosed with a flesh-eating disease that has since left him with scars on his face and body.
OG Maco is often credited as a pioneer of trap rap, having been in the scene dating back to 2011. He has released one studio album to date, 2021’s ‘The God Of Rage’. Apart from the album, he has dropped well over 20 EPs and mixtapes dating back to 2011. He is perhaps best known for his 2014 viral hit ‘U Guessed It’.
Speaking to AllHipHop, his manager Poppa Perc said that Maco was “about rebrand and drop [new music] under a whole new alias”.
