Off Campus: 8 Characters Who Should Get Their Own Book

The beauty of Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus universe is that it could go on forever, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. At this point in the hockey romance book series, the core four guys and their love interests are parents. The next-gen spinoff series focuses on the romances of their kids. There are even some books, like The Charlie Method, that focus on Briar U hockey players that aren’t even connected to the original characters.

Needless to say, with such a large universe, there’s no shortage of potential main characters. Kennedy has created a number of lovable side characters who could easily step into the spotlight. Some still might: After all, Kennedy recently announced Bad Idea, which revolves around Dean and Allie’s daughter, Ivy, and Jake and Brenna’s son, AJ.

So, Swooon is rounding up both next-gen characters who should get their own book and even some side characters from yesteryear we wish had gotten the main-character treatment. (Technically, we don’t think Kennedy will backtrack the timeline, but who’s to say we can’t have an Off Off Campus universe.)

Rupi Miller and Mike Hollis

Fans have been saying this couple should’ve gotten their own book for years, and we wholeheartedly agree. When she started living with Hunter, Summer, and Brenna in the Briar U series, it seemed like the bold and bubbly Rupi could be next up.

Rupi started dating the hilarious, similarly unhinged Mike, who also plays for Briar and is friends with all the main guys, in The Risk. In The Play, they eloped at a courthouse in Boston and jetted off to Nepal for their honeymoon. They planned to have a real wedding in India the following summer. Can you imagine how great their fiery, chaotic dynamic would be in a full book dedicated to them?

Kennedy explained why she didn’t fully dive into the couple via Goodreads, “Rupi and Hollis got their HEA at the end of The Play, and once a couple gets their HEA I typically don’t go back and write a whole story for them. I loved the idea of having them as a running subplot throughout the first three books, and I think they were really fun side characters.”

As much as we would love a retrospective romance for Rupi and Hollis, maybe there could be something to explore with them as parents. Or maybe there can be a book focused on one of their kids. Honestly, we’ll take more Rupi and Mike in any capacity.

Jamie Tucker

Three years ago, Kennedy said she didn’t have any plans for a book about Jamie, but we’re still holding out hope. Our girl Jamie kicked off the next generation in The Goal, after Sabrina accidentally got pregnant via a one-night stand with Tucker.

In the next-gen series, we’ve come to find out that Jamie absolutely rocks, which comes as no surprise given who her parents are. She’s even a badass lawyer like her mom. Jamie is 28 years old as of Love Song, so a Jamie-focused book could be an opportunity for Kennedy to deliver a slightly older, more mature romance. And we’d get more Sabrina and Tucker, which we’d never say no to.

Alex Tucker and Owen McKay

This one seems a little more likely, given how often they’re mentioned in the next-gen books. Plus, we can’t be the only ones rooting for them after their fling in The Graham Effect. Alex is Tucker and Sabrina’s youngest daughter, who works as a supermodel. She’s also Gigi Graham’s best friend, hence her involvement in The Graham Effect.

Owen is Ryder’s supportive, grounded half-brother and an NHL player. With that setup, Kennedy could explore the professional side of hockey and step outside of college, which could be a fun switch-up from the norm. And the fact that Alex is hung up on Owen and he apparently “spurned” her, per Love Song? We need the full story.

Gray Davenport

Gray is one of Kennedy’s “Golden Boys” — the group also consists of Wyatt Graham, Beau Di Laurentis, and AJ Connelly — so there’s also a solid chance his story is coming. We’re ready for it! Gray is following in his dad’s footsteps as a hotshot Briar U hockey player, and out of all his friends, he’s noted as the biggest f**kboy. It’s giving Dean Di Laurentis before Allie, basically. We need to see who makes him settle down.

Beau Di Laurentis and Stella Davenport

Before Beau gets his own book, he needs to repair his relationship with AJ — Beau slept with AJ’s then-girlfriend in Love Song, and more of the fallout is definitely going to be explored in Bad Idea. Once (or if) Beau gets his redemption arc in Bad Idea — he’s got a lot to do — then we’d totally welcome a book dedicated solely to him. And who better to whip him into shape than “born hellraiser” Stella?
