Nine Inch Nails to Release Collab Album with Boys Noize This Friday

Metal

Over the weekend at Coachella, Nine Inch Nails pulled an audible and performed as Nine Inch Noize, calling on their Tron: Ares collaborators Boys Noize for the full-scale production. It garnered a lot of attention and it turns out we’re not done with that pairing just yet, as it was announced that the two acts have joined forces to release a new album this Friday via Interscope Records.

Dubbed Nine Inch Noize, the project is an expansion of the concept behind NIN’s ‘Peel It Back’ tour, which saw Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross retune some of the band’s classic songs into a more electronic sort of sound.

Reznor explained how Nine Inch Noize and its Coachella performance came about:

“The creative fulfillment of working on the Challengers and TRON scores with Boys Noize led me to think that including him in the Peel It Back tour could be an interesting way to express NIN in more purely electronic terms live – a concept I’ve wanted to explore for some time. The result was so much fun for us we felt it was worth expanding and formalizing in some way.

“On a whim I mentioned it would be cool to play a whole set as Nine Inch Noize in the Sahara tent at Coachella. Careful what you wish for…the next thing I knew we were designing a whole new show to present in the way it deserved.”

Reznor said the two bands recorded this new material whenever they could. Didn’t matter if they were in a hotel, on a plane, or getting ready for a gig, the work got done whenever possible.

And though this is a new album following a wild Coachella show, Reznor said there are zero plans to go on tour as Nine Inch Noize.

“There’s no surprise tour announcement – this Saturday is it. I’m taking Sunday off and excited to be working on new Nine Inch Nails music Monday – I’ll see you when I come up for air.”

Oooooh, new Nine Inch Nails music? That sounds exciting…

As it stands, the Nine Inch Noize album will feature those reworked songs, including “Closer” and “She’s Gone Away”, as well as some newer tracks like “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” from the Tron: Ares soundtrack.
