Oasis have begun teasing a mysterious date that fans are speculating will come with the announcement of a reunion tour – here’s what fans have had to say online.
Last night at Reading Festival, Liam Gallagher teased a mysterious date on his screens towards the end of his set, with some news allegedly dropping at 8am on ‘27.08.24’. The same image cropped up in Manchester following Blossoms‘ homecoming gig in the city, and on Noel’s, Liam’s and Oasis’ official Twitter/X after the set.
Though there isn’t any official confirmation that the date leads to a reunion tour announcement, fans are adamant that Noel and Liam Gallagher are getting the band back together.
While speculation and talks of a potential Oasis reunion isn’t new to fans – there have been numerous instances of reunion discussions since their split in 2009 – this latest round of teases are the most prevalent in recent memory.
At Reading, Liam played Oasis’ debut studio album in full ahead of its 30th-anniversary reissue dropping on August 30. And, in honour of the occasion, he took a moment to shout out his brother, dedicating ‘Half The World Away’ to “Noel fucking Gallagher”, and further stoked rumours of an Oasis reunion earlier this Friday (August 23) at his Leeds headline set: “It is very interesting init? It is a very interesting situation we’ve found ourselves in.”
But what have fans had to say about the potential reunion? A fan named Ben wrote on X/Twitter: “No joke, Oasis getting back together would be one of the most culturally significant events in British history.” Meanwhile, Jedward (and Tara Reid) shared a clip of a ‘Wonderwall’ cover to “celebrate” the reunion, and wrote: “Happy Liam and Noel have worked it out and Oasis have officially reunited!”

Some have likened it to the “second coming of Christ”, while others are playing into the Grand Theft Auto 6 meme, which typically points at something seemingly impossible happening taking place between the long 12-year wait between the GTA 5 and GTA 6 games.
im telling everyone i know about the oasis reunion this is like the second coming of christ for oasis ppl

Some fans however, are a little more skeptical, while others are sharing their disdain for the band or are entirely indifferent to the tease. Dan Ozzi wrote, noting the longstanding feud between the Gallagher brothers: “If the Oasis reunion tanks it will be a reminder to never reconcile with your enemies. Just let your resentments and personal grudges eat away at you until one of you dies like God intended.”

Everybody is so certain that Oasis is reuniting, and that shit is hilarious because it’s not happening.

You guys have fun with it, I guess, but Oasis kinda sucks. I was there in the 90s. I remember them always being pretty lame.

The time for an Oasis reunion was ten years ago. I don’t know how to explain this but a reunion in 2025 just feels wrong and bad

While at Reading and Leeds, Team NME spoke to a handful of Oasis fans in attendance to gather their thoughts on the reunion tour rumours. On the whole, there seemed to be a pretty even divide between fans at the site. Some remained hopeful that the speculation could come to fruition, while others were adamant that the plans for a comeback would fall through.
“I do think an Oasis reunion is closer than we expect” one fan told us while at the festival, while another added: “Both Noel and Liam are on tour at the moment, they’re still producing music… I think they’re going to go for it.”
Some, on the other hand, weren’t quite so optimistic. “It’d be great to see it but the chances of them getting back together today is very unlikely,” one said, while someone else agreed, stating: “I don’t think it’s going to happen. It’s the same thing every year, someone pasts something, it gets taken out of context.”
Last week, Liam seemingly teased an Oasis reunion tour announcement date on X/Twitter, supposedly revealing that tour dates would drop “Nxt Friday”. The Times reported on Saturday (August 24) that the duo are looking likely to reunite in order to play a string of gigs, allegedly planned at the likes of Heaton Park and Wembley Stadium next year.
Oasis are also rumoured to be potential headliners for next year’s edition of Glastonbury Festival. If true, the set would come 30 years after the release of their seminal 1995 LP ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’
The rumours also follow Noel’s recent praise of Liam in a conversation with John Robb, saying: “I can’t sing ‘Slide Away’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ and ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ and ‘Columbia’ and all that.
