Rising R&B singer and songwriter Mariah the Scientist has signed a deal with Epic Records. She joins a label roster that includes Sade, Givēon, Tori Kelly, Future, Travis Scott and more.
“Mariah is a dynamic creative force with a clear vision for her music and the experience surrounding it,” says Epic Records’ President Ezekiel Lewis. “She is well equipped to help lead R&B music into the future and we could not be more thrilled to be her partners on that journey.”
Mariah the Scientist adds, “I was reluctant to sign a new deal… But I was excited to find a partner that understands me as an artist and has the infrastructure to support me in the ways I need most.”
Mariah the Scientist couples her new label home announcement with her new single “From A Woman.”
Produced by London on da Track, “From A Woman” tells a beautiful story of falling in love and having the courage to take a chance.
“Look at the trust closing in / Here’s to someone I can depend on, yes / Sent from above, I am convinced / If it isn’t luck, I guess love exists,” she sings on over a soothing production.
“From A Woman” is the follow-up to Mariah the Scientists’ 2022 track “Bout Mine.” Both songs will appear on her new album, To Be Eaten Alive, which releases on her birthday (Oct. 27).
Regarding the inspiration behind the album’s title, Mariah the Scientist explains, “Scorpions, like myself, are considered non-social and solitary animals. Interacting only on rare occasion, such as courtship. For the grand and notable lion, the scorpion seems to be a small feat. They are an unpredictable match and yet they establish a mutual respect for each other’s curious differences.”
To Be Eaten Alive will contain 10 tracks. While the tracklist has not been unveiled yet, Mariah the Scientist confirmed to Big Boy that rapper Young Thug is featured on a song called “Ride.”
To Be Eaten Alive is the follow-up to her EP, Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission. Before that, she released her second album, Ry Ry World, in 2021. Both projects were released on RCA Records, her previous label home.
