Mariah Carey is set to perform at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, Sunday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. ET via the official award show website and across all Billboard social media channels.
The Queen of Christmas will perform “All I Want For Christmas” for the first time at an awards ceremony. The holiday staple, which exceeds a billion streams on Spotify, has spent 12 weeks at No. 1 after peaking in 2019.
Emmy-winning choreographer Debbie Allen will oversee the creative direction of the sequence. According to Billboard, the set will be Aspen-inspired.
Carey also will be presented with the Billboard Chart Achievement Award for notable achievements with “All I Want for Christmas.”
One of the carol’s many feats includes it being one of three Carey songs to have spent 10 or more weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Her other two hits include “One Sweet Day” with Boyz II Men, and “We Belong Together,” which topped the flagship chart for 16 and 14 weeks, respectively.
Carey will join previously announced performers David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, KAROL G, NewJeans, Peso Pluma, Stray Kids, and Morgan Wallen.
Nominations for the 2023 Billboards Awards were announced this fall. SZA and The Weeknd have received 17 and 16 nominations, making them the most nominated R&B artists.
Among the additional nominees are Beyoncé, Steve Lacy, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Brent Faiyaz, and Jordin Sparks.
In other news, Carey has recently kicked off her Merry Christmas One and All Tour with 16 dates across the US.
The tour started in Highland, California, and continues tonight (Nov. 17) at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. The final stop of the festive run will take place on Dec. 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
In the earlier part of this year, Carey’s modern classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was included in the Library of Congress’ National Registry.
The song’s “cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage” led to its preservation for all time.
“I wanted it to be a love song because that’s kind of what people relate to, but also a Christmas song that made you feel happy,” Carey told the Library of Congress. “I’m most proud of the arrangements, the background vocal arrangements. ‘All I Want for Christmas’ is sort of in its own little category, and I’m very thankful for it.”
