Leela James Announces Tour Dates

R&B

Leela James has announced upcoming show dates, starting with a performance on July 14 in Augusta, Georgia.

The R&B vocalist will perform in U.S. cities, including New Orleans, Memphis, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.

As of now, James’ run of shows will conclude Oct. 12 in Chandler, Arizona.

Some of James’ upcoming shows will feature the singer supporting fellow R&B and soul greats, including Maxwell, Anthony Hamilton and Gregory Porter.

During her set, James could possibly perform her gold-selling single “Fall For You” from the 2014 album of the same name. This song has sold over 500,000 equivalent units.

Another record James may show love to is “Complicated,” her second No. 1 single on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. The Rex Rideout-produced track is lifted from her most recent album, 2021’s See Me.

“I wanted to give the people some that I felt we needed in the R&B and soul culture, from a time where we used to feel it and it used to sound like that. [It’s a] throwback, but it’s still fresh and new,” James told Rated R&B in a 2021 interview.

James updated the track with a feature from Anthony Hamilton, which resulted in the two receiving an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Traditional) in 2022.

Throughout the promotion of James’ See Me, she released videos for “Break My Soul,” “You’re The One,” and the title track.

Regarding the former track, James told Rated R&B, “I wanted to start the record with that particular song because it was a statement. I was letting it be known like, ‘You can’t break my soul. I’m still here.’ We come from strong stock, not just me as a Black woman, as a woman, me as a person, but as a whole, as a people. We’ve been through a lot in this past year clearly, but overall, particularly within the culture.”

See Me was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021 list.
