Ledisi doesn’t have time to play games with a potential lover.
On her new single, “Sell Me No Dreams,” the R&B vocalist urges a love interest to declare whether or not they are ready to pursue a relationship.
She makes it clear that she isn’t interested in a part-time lover, singing: “If you gon’ love me, then love me / If you gon’ leave me, then leave me / Don’t leave me hangin’ / Don’t sell me no dreams / If I give a hundred don’t give me half back / ‘Cause I’m not going to let you love me like that.”
“Sell Me No Dreams” was co-produced by G.A.D. and Shoji. It’s the follow-up to the soul-barring “I Need To Know,” released in January. The Rex Rideout-produced hit spent two weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
“I Need To Know” marked Ledisi’s second No. 1 hit on the Adult R&B Airplay chart, following 2020’s “Anything For You.” The latter song also spent two weeks atop the chart.
“Sell Me No Dreams” and “I Need To Know” will appear on Ledisi’s forthcoming album, which will be released via Listen Back Entertainment and BMG. There isn’t a release date set for the untitled album at this time.
Ledisi’s upcoming album will follow 2020’s The Wild Card. The 15-track set included Ledisi’s Grammy-winning hit “Anything For You,” also produced by Rex Rideout.
It won Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 63rd Grammy Awards, marking Ledisi’s first Grammy win.
In 2021, Ledisi released two albums: Ledisi Live at the Troubadour and Ledisi Sings Nina.
The latter album, which honored Nina Simone, scored a nod for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 64th Grammy Awards.
Speaking of live singing, Ledisi is set to embark on her headlining The Good Life Tour with special guests Raheem DeVaughn and BJ The Chicago Kid. The tour kicks off in March 2024. Read more about it here.
