LeAnn Rimes, Mickey Guyton Sing ‘Can’t Fight the Moonlight’

Country

CMT honored LeAnn Rimes‘ career and music on CMT Crossroads: LeAnn Rimes & Friends, which aired Thursday night (April 14). Fellow artists Ashley McBryde, Brandy Clark, Carly Pearce and Mickey Guyton joined Rimes on the show, and each artist performed Rimes’ hits with her.

One of the highlight performances of the night featured Rimes and Guyton collaborating on the singer’s worldwide hit from 2000, “Can’t Fight the Moonlight.” Recorded for the film Coyote Ugly, the song is one of Rimes’ most classic tunes, and the artists did it justice on the CMT Crossroads stage. Rimes and Guyton kicked off the performance together, trading lines while the band played the lively dance beat. Guyton provided harmony during the song’s chorus, and a hint of steel guitar added a country flair to the crossover hit.

As Rimes and Guyton sang, Pearce, McBryde and Clark watched and sang along from the edge of the stage. Guyton invited them to join toward the end of the performance, and all five artists concluded the upbeat song together.

CMT Crossroads: LeAnn Rimes & Friends also included performances of “One Way Ticket (Because I Can)” from Pearce and McBryde, “Probably Wouldn’t Be This Way” from Pearce, “I Need You” with Guyton, “Swingin'” with Clark and “Blue/Nothin’ Better to Do” with McBryde.

The Crossroads performance comes one week after Rimes announced her new studio album, God’s Work, which is due out Sept. 16. The project features 12 tracks, including collaborations with Guyton, Ziggy Marley, Aloe Blacc and more. Rimes will also set off on her The Story…So Far Tour on May 13 in Mashantucket, Conn. It will run through July 24, when it concludes in San Francisco, Calif.
