LAYA Reimagines Missy Elliott’s ‘Sock It 2 Me’ for Amazon Music

R&B

Emerging singer-songwriter LAYA pays homage to Missy Elliott in honor of Women’s History Month. The Staten Island, New York, native teamed up with Amazon Music to release her rendition of Elliott’s 1997 classic “Sock It 2 Me” from her Grammy-nominated debut album, Supa Dupa Fly.

When Amazon Music approached LAYA to record a cover of her choice, “Sock It 2 Me” immediately came to mind.

“I’ve sung it before, and I always had a good time singing it,” LAYA said. “I was like, ‘I would love to actually go into the studio with [my production team ORA] and really flip the record and make it new again.’”

Over a reworked production, LAYA delivers a soothing take on one of Elliott’s signature tracks.

“Sock It 2 Me” is LAYA’s second song release since signing with Warner Records this year.

LAYA will re-release her Um, Hello EP, which originally dropped in 2019. The updated project will include her latest single “Brag” featuring Fivio Foreign, as well as “Bitter” and “Sailor Moon.”
