Lalah Hathaway Signs With SRG-ILS Group, Preps New Album

R&B

Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer Lalah Hathaway has signed with SoNo Recording Group (SRG/ILS), in conjunction with Virgin Music.

She joins a roster that includes Chaka Khan, Ruben Studdard, Angie Stone, Kenny Lattimore, Jeff Bradshaw, J. Brown and more.

Claude Villani, founder and CEO of SRG/ILS Group, stated, “Lalah Hathaway is perhaps the finest vocalist on the planet, period! We welcome her with open arms to the SRG/ILS Group. Expect greatness!”

Hathaway is already working on new music to be released by SRG/ILS in partnership with Virgin Music. According to press materials, the untitled album is slated for release in early 2024.

Hathaway’s upcoming album will follow 2018’s Honestly, which she released on her independent imprint, Hathaway Entertainment.

She collaborated with Tiffany Gouché on the nine-track album, which also includes a feature from Christian rapper Lecrae.

Honestly included the celebratory single “I Can’t Wait,” which reached No. 20 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

As for the album itself, Honestly entered at No. 9 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart, marking her second consecutive top 10 album on this list.

Hathaway received three nominations at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019. Two of these nominations were for material from her album Honestly.

The track “YOY” was nominated for Best R&B Performance, while Honestly was up for Best R&B Album.

This was her second nomination in the latter category, as she had previously won the award in 2016 for her live album Lalah Hathaway Live. It is worth noting that her live album is the only live release to have won this award.

Hathaway Entertainment

In 2018, Hathaway released a deluxe edition of Honestly that includes alternative mixes and remixes of select tracks. The following year, she appeared on Anderson .Paak’s Grammy-winning album Ventura.

Since then, Hathaway has collaborated with new and established artists such as Robert Glasper, Aaron Taylor, Moonchild, Omarion, Kierra Sheard, and Boney James, and updated her father’s holiday classic “This Christmas” last year.

Earlier this year, Hathaway released a song titled “The Energy” with Ariza and Kole. It’s unclear if this song will be part of her forthcoming album.
