Kenyon Dixon’s New EP Is ‘For the ’99 and the 2000s’: Stream

R&B

Kenyon Dixon is back with The R&B You Love: For the ’99 and 2000s, the final installment of his EP series.

The seven-track set includes the previously shared singles “Far Away” and “Still,” plus the RL-assisted “2000s R&B” and “Good Love” from his album, The R&B You Love

After revisiting ’70s soul with the prior installment, Dixon embarks on a nostalgic journey from the Golden Era of R&B to the aughts.

“This project is the final installment to The R&B You Love series. It’s my ode to the R&B that has inspired us all throughout the years,” says Dixon. “My main goal with everything related to this series was just to remind everybody that the feeling didn’t die. There is, still, and will always be a space for the R&B that we love.”

For the ’99 and the 2000s includes the fourplay anthem “Freaky,” the bedroom workout jam “Run It Back” and the silken ballad “Brand New.”

The latter tune, also the current single, would fit neatly on a classic ’90s R&B album like Jodeci‘s Forever My Lady.

“‘Brand New’ is just one of them ones,” Dixon exclusively tells Rated R&B.

“The elements are there. This one is me living out my fantasy of knowing what it must’ve felt like being in one of the greatest male R&B groups of all time: Jodeci! They dominated the era and were truly trendsetters for a very influential style of ’90s R&B. So you can thank them for this one!”

For the ’99 and 2000s is the follow-up to The R&B You Love: Soul of the ’70s, released in March. “Soul of the ’70s is all about that feeling of love and just groove overall,” Dixon explained to Rated R&B. “I’ve always felt deeply connected to that era of music on a soul level. So I felt like this effort was inevitable.”

Both EPs are the offspring of Dixon’s album The R&B You Love, which was among Rated R&B’s 25 Best R&B Albums of 2023

Regarding his album, Dixon told Rated R&B, “I’ve been on a mission to make people demand and expect more from modern R&B. It’s such a sacred genre and deserves the best representation all around, from the studio to your speakers to the stage. I hope this album makes you fall back in love with R&B. Cheers to The R&B You Love.”
