Kehlani’s ‘While We Wait’ Gets Certified Gold by RIAA

R&B

Kehlani has achieved four new certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Their 2019 While We Wait mixtape has been crowned gold with over 500,000 equivalent units sold. It’s their third project following 2015’s You Should Be Here and 2017’s SweetSexySavage to land an RIAA certification. The latter two projects are also certified gold.

Three songs from While We Wait also have new RIAA awards. The popular track “Nights Like This” featuring Ty Dolla $ign is now 3x platinum with more than three million equivalent units sold.

At the time of publication, the DannyBoyStyles and Nolan Lambroza-produced track has garnered 552.6 million streams on Spotify; the official video has over 58 million views on YouTube.

“Footsteps” featuring Musiq Soulchild and “RPG” featuring 6LACK are both certified gold. The former has 31.5 million streams on Spotify, while the latter has 45.6 million streams.

The Dom Kennedy-assisted “Nunya” was previously certified gold in 2021, tallying four RIAA awards for the project.

While We Wait will celebrate its 5th anniversary later this month. The project was released Feb. 22, 2019, via Atlantic Records, to hold over fans as Kehlani prepared to give birth to their daughter.

Kehlani returned with their sophomore album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, in 2020. The 15-track offering featured collaborations with Jhené Aiko, Lucky Daye, Masego and James Blake.

In 2022, Kehlani released their third album, blue water road. It debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart with 22,000 equivalent units sold in the first week. Following the album’s release, Kehlani embarked on The Blue Water Road Trip Tour

Kehlani could have new music on the way. The Grammy-nominated singer recently cleared their Instagram, only leaving posts for their previously released projects: blue water road, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, While We Wait and SweetSexySavage.

Furthermore, their profile picture on the social media platform is of them at a recording studio. Kehlani has yet to make an official announcement regarding new tunes.
