K. Michelle’s latest single “Scooch” moves to No. 1 this week on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, dethroning Silk Sonic’s remake of Con Funk Shun’s “Love’s Train” from the top spot.

It’s the Memphis, Tennessee, native’s first number one on this chart. Her previous best was “The Rain.” The New Edition-inspired tune scored K. Michelle’s first top ten on the Adult R&B list, peaking at No. 8 during the March 7, 2020, tracking week. The song, co-produced by Jazze Pha and Cory Mo, was part of K. Michelle’s 2020 album All Monsters Are Human.

Before “The Rain,” K. Michelle’s most popular radio jam was “V.S.O.P.” from her 2013 debut album, Rebellious Soul. It peaked at No. 13 in March 2014. She yielded the same outcome in March 2018 with “Make This Song Cry” from her album Kimberly: The People I Used to Know

Focusing again on K. Michelle’s current single, “Scooch,” the Lil Ronnie-produced tune recently earned the number one title on R&B radio. The flirty ditty is the lead single from K. Michelle’s forthcoming album, I’m The Problem. The LP is said to be her sixth and final R&B album as she embarks on a career in country.

“I’ve been healing through this album,” K. Michelle told Rated R&B on why I’m The Problem adds to her catalog’s emotional albums. “I have dealt with my relationship through this album. I have dealt with my relationship with my son through this album. I have dealt with where I want to go in my future through this album.”

I’m The Problem was teased to come out in March, but K. Michelle continued to record more new songs with different collaborators, including Carmen Reece. She worked with K. Michelle on More Issues Than Vogue, issued on Atlantic Records in 2016.

For the pending country album, K. Michelle found collaborators in Dolly Parton, Billy Ray Cyrus and Eric Paslay. There is no official release date or single for the untitled record.

In other-related music news, K. Michelle contributed to Nick Cannon’s new project, The Explicit Tape: Raw & B. The album included other big R&B names, including Brandy, Jacquees, Chris Brown and others.

Earlier this year, K. Michelle appeared on Lifetime in both a series and an original movie. The first was My Killer Body with K. Michelle, centered around the reconstruction process of several patients, including K. Michelle, who went under the knife for vain and other reasons.

K. Michelle starred in the network’s thriller Single Black Female as Bebe, the best friend of Simone, portrayed by Amber Riley, affectionally known as RILEY.
