K. Michelle’s ‘Scooch’ Reaches No. 1 at R&B Radio

R&B

K. Michelle‘s latest single “Scooch” has peaked at No. 1 at R&B radio. It’s the singer-songwriter’s first chart-topper on this radio format. Her previous best was “The Rain,” which was a top 10 hit.

K. Michelle first benefitted from an R&B radio hit with “V.S.O.P.” from her debut album, Rebellious Soul. The song, co-written by Priscilla Renea  (a.k.a.  Muni Long), reached the top 20.

In mid-February, K. Michelle released “Scooch” as the first single from her album I’m The Problem. Produced by Lil Ronnie, the cutesy jam entered the top 10 on R&B radio in late May. It resulted duplicated that result on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart

As of today, “Scooch” has amassed more than 677,000 streams on Spotify since its February release. The music video is doing a bit better on YouTube, surpassing 1.4 million views.

“I wanted to do something different,” K. Michelle explained to Rated R&B about selecting “Scooch” as the lead single. “I wasn’t doing any male-bashing. I wanted to start with something a little bit more bright or something you could dance to. It’s about to get warm. I want you to be able to go out and just do your thing when it comes to that.”

I’m The Problem is forthcoming. It is expected to be the sixth and final R&B album by K. Michelle. She last issued the 2020 album All Monsters Are Human. It placed on Rated R&B’s best R&B albums of 2020 list

“This album is super emotional, and I know that. All my albums are emotional but I think this one I’ve been accumulating so many records. I’ve been healing through this album,” K. Michelle told Rated R&B about I’m The Problem.

“I have dealt with my relationship through this album. I have dealt with my relationship with my son through this album. I have dealt with where I want to go in my future through this album. I’m at a crossroads in my life right now. So that’s what this is about.”

K. Michelle had plans to make June a musical month. But she continues to put touches on I’m The Problem. The same goes for the untitled country project she has been plotting for a few years. It is expected to feature contributions from Dolly Parton, Billy Ray Cyrus and Eric Paslay, to name a few.

In May, K. Michelle teamed up with Nick Cannon for the song “A Player’s Prayer Intro.” It opened Cannon’s most recent project, The Explicit Tape: Raw & B, which also features Brandy, Chris Brown, Jacquees and others.
