Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood came together onstage at the 2022 CMT Music Awards on Monday night (April 11). They won the award for Collaborative Video of the Year for their song, “If I Didn’t Love You.”
Both artists came up to claim their trophy in person during the ceremony, which aired live from Nashville.
“This song has just kind of been so unbelievable this year, how you the fans have responded to it, and how everybody has,” Aldean explained from the stage, going on to thank his duet partner and all the people who helped bring the song to life. “For me, the video is [director] Shaun Silva, everybody at Tackle Box, Michael Knox for producing this song and just kinda making this more than I ever thought it could be.”
“Thank you fans so much for all the support you’ve given to this song and this video. Thank you CMT!” Underwood added.
The winning video beat out Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde‘s “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” Dustin Lynch and MacKenzie Porter’s “Thinking ‘Bout You,” Nelly and Florida Georgia Line‘s “Lil Bit,” Jimmie Allen and Brad Paisley‘s “Freedom Was a Highway,” Jordan Davis and Luke Bryan‘s “Buy Dirt” and Kelsea Ballerini and Kenny Chesney‘s “Half of My Hometown.”
One of the fastest-rising hits of 2021, “If I Didn’t Love You” skyrocketed to the top of the charts and quickly began picking up awards. Aldean and Underwood earned a Grammy nod for this song, and they won Single of the Year at the ACM Awards. Now, they’re adding a CMT Award for their duet’s high-drama performance music video.
“If I Didn’t Love You” is also nominated for the biggest award of the night, Video of the Year, and both artists are performing on the show — though not together. Aldean is teaming up with rocker Bryan Adams, while Underwood is performing solo.
The 2022 CMT Music Awards broadcasted live from Nashville on CBS. This year marked the first time that the awards show has aired on a major network.
