India Shawn Releases Debut Album ‘Before We Go (Deeper)’

Singer-songwriter India Shawn has released her debut album, Before We Go (Deeper), via LACA Records/Epic Records — and it was well worth the wait.

The 14-track LP includes all the songs from Shawn’s 2021 EP, Before We Go, and seven new tracks. Every song on Before We Go (Deeper) was produced by Oscar and Grammy winner D’Mile, except for the Colin Munroe-produced “To Change My Mind.”

Among the new set of songs is the current focus track “Caught in the Middle.” The blues-inspired tune hears Shawn trying to make sense of her tumultuous relationship. She knows that she is going to be in pain whether she moves on or stays.

“Is it wrong that I can’t stay and I’m so far from running? / I don’t know / Must be wrong for me to leave you while my heart still drumming / Can’t let go,” Shawn sings in the chorus.

Before We Go (Deeper) includes collaborations with Anderson .Paak (“Movin’ On“), 6LACK (“Not Too Deep“), Ambré (“Cali Love”), Cory Henry (“Patience”) and more.

Of her new album, Shawn says, “Every lover has been a mirror, and every relationship has called me home to myself — to know myself more and to love myself better. I hope this album inspires others to turn deeper inward for the love they were always looking for.”

Shawn released her Before We Go EP in December 2021. In an interview with Rated R&B, she shared her experience working with her longtime collaborator D’Mile.

“There’s a level of friendship and trust that allows for a healthy creative environment. He cares about what I want to do,” she told Rated R&B. “I think that mutual trust and friendship really resonate. You can hear that in the music. It’s feel-good energy. It’s positive energy. Of course, he’s just a musical genius who plays every instrument. I feel like him in combination with anybody is going to be great just because he’s that amazing.”
