It’s hard to think of any other dad-rock band that does old school noise rock quite like Helmet. In recent news, the New York foursome has taken a trip to Seattle’s famous KEXP Studio for a live session.
For those of you who might be living under a rock, KEXP is a non-profit organization that regularly hosts bands, artists and experimental projects in their Seattle, Washington studio. It’s radio and video show has previously had notable performances from heavier bands like Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Earth and others.
Keeping things respectfully dingy, Helmet played a setlist of some of their biggest and notoriously post-punk hits, including “Wilma’s Rainbo” under glistening star lights. The setup for the video is pretty vibey if we do say so ourselves.
The session was hosted by broadcast journalist Troy Nelson who, following a few performances, spoke with the band about their discography, working with record producer Butch Vig, and how they’ve “invented a whole new genre.” Nelson’s words, not ours…
