Giveon Refuses to Accept the Ugly Truth on New Song ‘Lie Again’

R&B

Sometimes the truth hurts, and a lie feels comforting. The latter seems to be the case for Givēon in his new song “Lie Again.”

Over a bluesy production, which he co-created with Don Mills, Givēon begs his lover to fill his head with sweet lies in order to avoid accepting the bitter truth of their relationship.

“Am I insеcure? ‘Cause it’s too much / Hate to think you’vе done this before / Don’t tell me, baby, I’ve heard enough / I’ve told you I don’t want the truth / So just / Lie so sweet (Lie), until I believe / That it’s only been me to touch you-ooh,” he sings.

“‘Lie Again’ is a story about the internal war with oneself, battling the acceptance of the ugly-truth, and the refusal to embrace the ghosts of your lover’s past,” explains Givēon. “Detailing the complexities of overlooking red flags to remain blissfully ignorant in the name of love.”

Givēon’s new single arrives with an accompanying video. The Adrian Martinez-directed video finds Givēon alone, taking a walk through Downtown Los Angeles at night. He makes his way onto the road, where a few speeding cars come in close contact with him, but he’s obviously distracted. It’s as if he’s so into his head that he has lost sight of his surroundings.

The following morning, Givēon gets into a taxi with no destination in mind. “You can just drive, please,” he tells the driver. A snippet of an unreleased track plays on the radio during his ride. You’ll have to watch the full video to find out what happens at the end.

“Lie Again” is the follow-up to Givēon’s 2021 single “For Tonight,” which was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in February 2022, selling more than 500,000 equivalent units. Both songs will appear on his forthcoming debut album that will release on Not So Fast/Epic Records.

Last year also marked to release of the Long Beach, California, native’s project When It’s All Said And Done… Take Timea compilation of his Take Time and When It’s All Said And Done EPs, and a bonus track, “All to Me.” The latter tune was certified gold by the RIAA earlier this month.
