Gama Bomb Makes Chris Williams Their Official Drummer as Work on Their Next Album Starts

Change is afoot with the insanely fast, talented, and based Irish thrash metal outfit Gama Bomb. Roughly five years after their longtime drummer Paul Caffrey left the band, they’ve officially filled in that vacancy with a full-time drummer by bringing their live drummer Chris Williams into the fold.

Williams has been playing with Gama Bomb at their live gigs since 2021. During that time, he’s traveled Europe and Asia on various dates over the years while Decapitated’s drummer James Stewart played on both 2020’s Sea Savage and last year’s BATS.

With work beginning on the band’s ninth studio album, which will be released sometime in the future via Prosthetic Records, frontman Philly Byrne said now was the perfect time to make Williams’ place in the band official.

“Change can be slow in Gama Bomb – we’ve all been friends for so long it can be hard to break into that, but Chris has been such a great and easygoing guy to hang out with, and has made the band so much better as a live experience, we’d be fools not to make it official. Chris is a beast behind the kit, he brings a lot of energy, good humour and professionalism to the band and we’re excited to start making albums with him!”

In addition to his work on Gama Bomb, Williams also plays for Shrapnel and U.K. thrash metal band Struck A Nerve. Having spent so much time with the rest of the guys in Gama Bomb, Williams said he’s excited to see what comes next.

“I’m delighted to be an official member of Gama Bomb. It’s been a blast touring with the lads and we’ve become great friends – we’re excited for the future! Hell yeah brother!”

Speaking of what comes next, along with the new album that’s currently in the works, the band also have the impending release of Survival Of The Fastest, a documentary about the band by director Kiran Acharya. That film will begin screening at U.K. and European film festivals, with the eventual release planned for sometime in 2025.
