New Zealand is home to some of the most ferocious and feral metal on the planet, and Ifrit is no exception to this legacy of brutality. On the band’s new EP, Haunting Charnel Grounds, the band blazes a trail of blackened death metal destruction. Fans of Angelcorpse, Immolation, Bolt Thrower, Incantation, and Gateways-era Morbid Angel will find a lot to worship in the haunting riffs and howls present on this release. To the band’s great credit, they’ve crafted a release that is very well-produced, with a crisp sound that allows you to hear everything perfectly — but still preserved the raw power of the music.
According to the band:
“The EP started with the essence and atmosphere of a Black Metal project. However, K.S. plays with such speed and ferocity that it naturally evolved from introspection to aggression and became a Death Metal release.”
Haunting Charnel Grounds comes out September 6 via Brilliant Emperor and Gutter Prince Cabal. Listen to the EP in full here:
