Fridayy Releases Self-Titled Debut Album

R&B

Francis LeBlanc, better known as Fridayy, makes his formal introduction with his self-titled debut album, out now on Lost In Melody/Def Jam Recordings.

The album was preceded by the singles “Don’t Give It Away” with Chris Brown and “When It Comes To You.”

“This album is the story of Fridayy, but it’s also the story of other people too,” shares Fridayy. “It’s a project for us, by me. I want people to connect to their experiences as they hear mine.”

He adds, “I’m talking about hope and inspiration as much as I’m talking about trials and tribulations. You can’t talk about the dream without talking about the pain. Those life aspects are universal, so I’m hoping it touches as many people as possible as they see themselves in me.”

“Came Too Far,” the opening track, features Maverick City Music and Fridayy’s mother. The autobiographical track chronicles Fridayy’s journey from his very early beginnings to making a breakthrough as an artist. (He received mainstream attention for his work on DJ Khaled’s Grammy-nominated song “GOD DID” featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and John Legend.)

Lyrically, the song is about Fridayy making strides in his life, and there’s no one who can get in the way of his destiny. His mother appears in the song, offering words of wisdom and a prayer (in Haitian Creole) for her son.

The introspective “3AM In NY” finds Fridayy up late praying away his inner demons and striving to keep his soul protected. “They tried to make me fold / But some things just don’t bend / You cannot take my soul, all alone,” he sings earnestly.

On “Stand By Me,” another standout, Fridayy sings about wanting a love interest to be by his side through his ups and downs just like he would. “You could be a million miles but / I’m still gon’ slide for you,” he croons.

The song is accompanied by a stirring video that portrays the lives of various Black and brown people who navigating through challenging times. Despite everyone’s hardship, they beautifully come together to offer emotional support to one another.

Fridayy is the follow-up to his debut EP, Lost In Melody, released in October 2022. He followed up in February with Lost In Melody (Deluxe), which featured five bonus tracks, including the Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Shoot.”
