EP Stream: Grinding the Groove with CHÜZO’s M.T.M.D.(Maximum Threshold, Minimum Decay)

Metal

‘A Brazilian vocalist, a Chilean guitarist, a Russian bassist and a Venezuelan drummer walk into a Montreal metal bar’ might sound like the beginning of a borderline funny joke, but it, in a roundabout way, speaks to the christening of thrash, punk, death-beat quartet CHÜZO. The band’s latest EP — M.T.M.D.(Maximum Threshold, Minimum Decay) — is the latest in a long line of releases since forming in 2020 and sees the light of day today. The band has a lot to say about their latest endeavour, but fans of old Sepultura, Napalm Death, At the Gates and Fuck the Facts should find something of interest in the stream we’re running below.

Comments the band:

“We thank Decibel for offering us this immense opportunity to showcase our newest offering, our EP M.T.M.D.(Maximum Threshold, Minimum Decay). This is a dream come true for us as Decibel has been one of the most influential platforms for us and the world of heavier music and we cannot be thankful enough for this opportunity and for people to listen to our songs.

M.T.M.D. is the culmination of many processes that came to be during the latter stages of the year 2023 into 2024. These stages were writing new songs while looking for new members; as well as reestablishing the band in what could be considered the Heavy Metal capital of Canada, the city of Montreal. This EP represents a new beginning and a new re-energization of the band that is hungrier than ever to showcase these songs. The new songs delve into topics of social justice, vengeance and provocation driven into blind rage. From being neglected by life and society to achieving an act of revenge that will consume you inside in the end, to unleashing all of your inner anger after being provoked and taunted for too long; this EP is just a small sample of what CHÜZO can express and with themes that are relatable to any human being that has been living on this land of anger. This album is also about rising above the ashes of your defeats to become stronger, more resilient, and more focused, to carry on with a new strength and a new determination for this hard life.

“The mission statement with this new EP was to showcase our new lineup with our newest songs that are truly representative of our musical style, a style that we proudly call ‘Aggro-Metal.’ Very aggressive metal songs that have relatable themes that anyone can listen and understand. This EP is our audio shotgun blast to the world to pay attention to and to mosh intensively during our live sets.

“The musical inspirations for this EP came from genres as radically opposed as grindcore, Swedish death metal, hardcore punk, and 90s groove metal. These styles represent the roots of our musical lineage and we mix them with pride and gusto. The album has a modern sound with old-school sensibilities. It’s a short but brutal punch to the face. Something you’ll be begging for more.

“Having Kevin Jardine (Slaves on Dope) as our producer to collaborate with was a blessing as was his expertise and production wizardry; he was able to capture our sound and make it monstrous. He produced, edited, mixed and mastered our EP and the final results were much better than expected.

M.T.M.D. (Maximum Threshold, Minimum Decay) is the CHÜZO EP that will show the listener just how hard and dedicated we were when writing and recording these songs. Putting all of our hearts and souls into this EP; we hope that the listener will feel the anger and rage, understand the futileness of being driven only

by revenge, and let their most inner angry demon be unleashed to the world after being bullied for way too long; all accompanied by the angriest riffs and soaring vocals that emulates what Aggro-Metal and what is the music of CHÜZO. This EP belongs in the playlists of every devotee of heavy riffs and moshable songs.
