DaniLeigh Shares New Song ‘Heartbreaker’

R&B

DaniLeigh no longer has the wool pulled over her eyes, sharing her story of clarity on the new single “Heartbreaker.”

On the guitar-laden track, the multi-platinum singer seems to have woken up and smelled the coffee about a cunning two-timer who’s shown his hand more than once.

“It’s a shame the way you play / Play your games, your silly games / Should’ve known, it was in my face / I guess I got what I bargained for / Walkin away, finally / I’m for real this time / I won’t change my mind,” DaniLeigh sings in an airy voice.

“Heartbreaker” is the latest song from DaniLeigh that will appear on her upcoming EP, My Side, out July 22 on Def Jam Recordings.

Ahead of releasing “Heartbreaker,” DaniLeigh issued “Dead to Me.” In a spring interview with Angie Martinez, she shared why she selected the latter track to lead the new record.

“I wanted to just kick it off with this song because it expressed the place I was in and what I needed to do for myself, which was dead the relationship, and make sure I do it for myself and my child. The toxic situation just needed to die,” DaniLeigh told Martinez.

“Heartbreaker” and “Dead to Me,” as well as the upcoming EP, are inspired by her alleged toxic relationship with rapper DaBaby, the father of her first child.

For My Side, DaniLeigh collaborated with various producers and songwriters, including Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Eric Young, Ina Wroldsen, Nelson “Keyz” Bridges, and Cheyenne L. Surratt.

My Side will follow DaniLeigh’s 2020 album, Movie. The 16-track release featured guest appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Queen Naija, Fivio Foreign and many others.

Ahead of Movie, DaniLeigh debuted singles such as “Monique” and “Levi High” with DaBaby.
