Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has revealed that he think Dave Grohl having a new kid outside of his marriage is “irresponsible”, but “does not mean he’s not a nice person”.
Earlier this month, the Foo Fighters singer revealed that he has become a father of a baby girl outside of his marriage – but is “doing everything I can to regain the trust” of his wife Jordyn Blum and his family. He and Blum already share three daughters, Violet, Harper and Ophelia.
The following, a post went viral claiming that the newborn baby girl was being named Roxie Junie Grohl, and that she was “truly a Grohl through and through”. The post was debunked as fake, with Grohl’s representatives confirming as such to NME.
Now, Corey Taylor – a longtime friend of Grohl – has commented on the situation, which has led to Foo Fighters cancelling their Soundside Music Festival performances this past weekend.
Taylor appeared on a recent episode of the Your Mom’s House podcast, hosted by comedian couple Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky, where he was asked to share his thoughts on the “messy” situation. He began by explaining that he thought Grohl announced the birth to “get ahead” of the baby’s mother breaking the news herself.
He continued: “Obviously, it’s very irresponsible. I know there are a lot of disappointed fans out there because of the image he’s developed. But I have to remind people that we’re not perfect. He was one of the last people to really have that image…”
“This happening does not mean he’s not a nice person, because I happen to know him as a person. It means he’s got fucking issues and he fucked up. He’s not perfect. It is going to be very difficult for his family. I’m not gonna make any assumptions about why or how it happened. I’m sober, but at the same time, I’ve gone through my own shit.”
Corey concluded on the matter: “Did he do something horrible? Yes. But if that’s the one thing that defines him, then what the fuck are we doing? It’s disappointing.”
Since Grohl’s announcement, his daughters Violet and Harper have deactivated their Instagram accounts. Violet has become known in recent years for touring with Foo Fighters alongside her father and is featured on the band’s 2023 track ‘Show Me How’ from their emotional album ‘But Here We Are‘ – written in the aftermath of the loss of Grohl’s mother Virginia and late Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins.
As for Slipknot, the band most recently settled a lawsuit against late drummer Joey Jordison’s estate. Last year, Jordison’s estate sued the band for “profiting” off his death, claiming that the band continued to use Jordison’s name and personal belongings “in a travelling Slipknot museum called Knotfest and lined their pockets with profit off of Jordison’s devoted fanbase” despite promising that they would return his belongings to his family after he was fired from the band in 2013.
Slipknot will also be back on the road later this year, with a UK and European tour set to celebrate 25 years as a band – you can purchase tickets here. The metal giants will kick off the tour at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on December 5, 2024, before heading onto a trio of shows in Germany, followed by dates in Zürich and Paris. The band will then continue to Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham and will wrap up at London’s O2 Arena on December 20.
