Blast Worship: Smearing – Decibel Magazine

Metal

Where they from?
Seattle, Washington. Wow, the Lions really blew it over the weekend. I mean a number one seed getting blown out of their own building, how Detroit. The nightmare continues for the silver and blue. Also, snow games rule. They should blanket the field with fake snow for all those boring-ass preseason games in August. Instant much-watch TV. Call me Goodell, I have many such good ideas.

Why the hype?
Holy cow, we have an honest-to-goodness brand spankin’ new band featured in the almighty Blast Worship column! I know nothing about this band other than they are from the Emerald City and have thus far only released a single demo which instantly caught my attention and inevitably captured my delicate heart. This is definitely a more ‘hardcore’ approach to grindcore, think WVRM but with a nice smearing (pun intended) of dissonance. They also do my favorite thing ever, which is when the guitar player just chugs dissonant chords while the drum plays blast beats. It’s my favorite thing ever because my simple brain can wrap it’s simple neurons around it rather than have to dissect some extravagant widdly-woo.

Latest release?
Smearing, self-released. It really is such a rarity when a band’s debut demo stands out this much to me and a special shoutout to BREVITY as my ass is so incredibly tired of having to sift through 20 plus tracks just to find some decent riffs. I could see this band doing big things, but to be fair, I also had the Lions winning the Super Bowl, so who knows how accurate my judgement is.
