Blast Worship: Septic Excrements – Decibel Magazine

Metal

Where they from?
Singapore. It is now NFL playoff time and if you’re anything like me, your team is nowhere near the tournament, which means it is now time for schadenfreude. Who’s downfall would be the juiciest? The Chiefs? The Eagles? I know I never have a bad time watching the Steelers eat a big bowl of shit on some snowy field somewhere in January. What a delightful time for the whole family!

Why the hype?
It is inevitable that any and every grindcore band from Singapore will inevitably be compared with stalwarts of the genre Wormrot, who almost singlehandedly put the region on the map. But this is not always fair! Septic Excrements is an excellent band in their own right and don’t share too much musical DNA with the ol’ ‘rot. Their music skews much harsher and impalpable, reminding me of the legendary Brazilian harsh noise/grind outfit Narayama, the band so good it inspired me to start writing about grindcore in the first place.

Latest Release?
Septicalyptic Remains, Shitresist Records. I can’t find my thesaurus anywhere so I’ll just have to settle by saying this is one the most BRUTAL records I’ve heard in a while. If you’re a fan of relentless blasting, sheet of wall guitars and vocals that sound like they are from the bowels of Hell, than look no further. One teaspoon of this is good enough to give your cat diarrhea for days. Trust me, I’m still cleaning my apartment!
