Blast Worship: Cheswick – Decibel Magazine

Metal

Where they from?
Northern France. This past Friday was the 13th anniversary of when Dave Mustaine posted on Facebook about spilling a breakfast smoothie on his jeans. This is undoubtedly one of the greatest internet posts of all time and will be studied by future generations as a sort of fisheye-lens into the soul of our most turbulent times.

Why the hype?
Well, it has certainly been a while since we covered a good ol’ fashioned powerviolence band but low and behold, here we are. Cheswick don’t do anything too far removed from the traditional pv box but what they do, they do extremely well. Think of bands like Australia’s Extortion except somehow even snotty-er and nastier. Also, I think one of the vocalists sounds like the dude from Warfuck but I can’t really tell, might just be the brekkie smoothing talking (GRRRR).

Latest Release?
EP 2024, Weekend on Monday Records. Apparently this thing came out last October but didn’t come to my attention until this past week. Such is life when you’re the world’s leading grindcore virgin. Either way you should pick up a copy, as it’s a pretty uncompromising assemblage of gnarly riffs and excellent wordplay. Maybe it will make you frisky enough to have a smoothie in your jeans. I’m just spitballing here.
