Married music stars Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are mourning the death of Betty, a dog that came into Shelton’s life nearly two decades ago.
“It’s with the heaviest hearts that we share our sweet Betty has gone to heaven,” Stefani wrote on Instagram on Saturday, as she shared a montage of cute moments with the canine, set to her and Shelton’s 2020 duet “Nobody But You.”
Stefani added, “She made us all smile for 18 years… we’re going to miss her forever. Thank [you], Betty, for all the love [and] joy [you] brought into our lives.”
One of the moments in the montage is Betty’s cameo in “Nobody But You” music video. When a CMT interviewer commented on Betty jumping all over the couple in the video and asked if the dog got jealous, Shelton said she did.
“She’s Gwen’s dog now, so that’s where the jealousy comes in,” the former Voice coach said.
“She loves both of her parents very much,” Stefani added.
In the comments on Stefani’s Instagram announcement, fans expressed their condolences. “OMG, I am so, so sorry,” one person wrote. “Keeping you all in my heart and sending the biggest hugs. Thank you for sharing so many Betty moments with us through the years so we could also experience the joy Betty had to share in the world. She is so loved and will be missed so much. Rest in peace, sweet Betty.”
Someone else commented, “I’m so sorry. Those of us who have had the honor to share our life with special furbabies unfortunately know this pain all too well. It is a loss that lives with us always. Wishing you peace and comfort.”
Instagram followers just saw Betty in one of Stefani’s Instagram reels last month, as she posted a video of herself and the dog hanging out in a trailer as she made a surprise appearance during Shelton’s VOA Country Music Festival concert.
Shelton and Stefani, who started dating in 2015 and married in 2021, are also the parents of a dog, Ginger, and a cat, Corn, according to People. As for human children, Stefani has three kids — Kingston, 20, Zuma, 18, and Apollo, 12 — from her marriage to Gavin Rossdale.
