Black Pumas Release New Album ‘Chronicles of a Diamond’

R&B

Progressive soul duo Black Pumas has returned with their sophomore album, Chronicles of a Diamond, via ATO Records.

The thrilling 10-track offering includes the undeniable standout single “More Than a Love Song,” plus the previously shared “Mrs. Postman,” “Angel” and “Ice Cream (Pay Phone).”

The former song and lead single reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart and was No. 1 at Americana radio.

Chronicles of a Diamond is the follow-up to their self-titled debut album, released in 2019.

The critically acclaimed album scored the duo, composed of vocalist/songwriter Eric Burton and guitarist/producer Adrian Quesada, three nominations at the 65th Grammy Awards: Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“Colors”) and Best American Roots Performance (“Colors”).

Quesada acknowledges their debut success and admits it created a little pressure for their sophomore effort.

“I knew the first record was good when we finished it, but I had no idea people would respond like they did, says Quesada. “This time around, there was a lot of pressure and expectation that we hadn’t felt before, which was overwhelming at times, but we did our best to tune that out and focus on trusting ourselves like we always have.”

Pressure aside, Burton adds, “More than anything, I wanted to make something we’d be thrilled to play live 200 days a year. I wanted to be able to laugh, cry, bob my head, do the thing: it was all very much a selfish endeavor.”

Black Pumas will support their new album on their upcoming tour dates, which span into April 2024.

They’ll kick things off Dec. 3 at ACL Live in their hometown, Austin, Texas.

They’ll play three additional sold-out nights there before venturing to Houston, Philadelphia, Chicago, and New York City.

In March 2024, the duo will head to Europe and will return in April for two shows in Nashville. A list of their tour dates is provided below.
